Veterans employment workshop
Congressman Raul Grijalva is sponsoring Workforce Services: A workshop for Yuma-area veterans and their spouses from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Yuma Private Industry Council Career Center in Somerton at 663 E. Main St.
Learn how to:
• Find quality employment opportunities
• Market your transferable skills
• Get help with training
• Understand tax credits for hiring veterans
• Complete federal applications.
Presenters will include local, state and federal veterans assistance and workforce development programs.
International trade seminar
Learn more about the State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) program during a seminar from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corp. board room, 899 Plaza Circle (off Redondo Center Drive), Suite 2.
The event is free. To reserve a seat, call GYEDC at 782-7774 by Oct. 26. Those attending are encouraged to bring a lunch as the seminar will work through the lunch hour.
Guest speakers will be Eric Nielsen, director of U.S. Commercial Service Arizona, and Kevin O'Shea, STEP program manager with the Arizona Commerce Authority.
Topics will include the STEP program, assistance available to businesses through the program, goods being exported and international contacts, and export assistance available through the U.S. Commercial Service. There will also be a roundtable discussion regarding the export landscape in the Yuma area.
Chamber ‘Spooktacular' mixer
The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce's annual “Spooktacular” mixer will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday on the front lawn of the chamber office at 180 W. 1st St. Admission is free.
The event is sponsored by the chamber's board of directors and will feature refreshments, live music, networking and a chance to win a new Apple iPad2. For more information, call the chamber at 782-2567.
Worker safety training
OSHA worker safety training workshops this month will be Wednesday at Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Drive, presented by Joe Ornelas, Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health trainer.
The morning session will focus on excavation and trench safety from 9 a.m. to noon. Flammables and fire safety will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m.

Business women meet
The Yuma chapter of American Business Women's Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ramada Inn-Chilton Conference Center, 300 E. 32nd St.
