ON DECK: Shamrocks again last team standing

And then there was one.

With the cross country and swim state meets finished, Cibola football, and AWC, Kofa and Yuma Catholic volleyball all eliminated from the playoffs, one area team remains.

The defending Arizona Interscholastic Association Division V State Champion. The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. After getting unlucky when it comes to the bracket — the Shamrocks dropped to No. 5 when a team with two losses (Tempe Prep) jumped them and Northwest Christian remained No. 1 after losing the final game of the year — the Shamrocks won their opening round game against No. 12 Willcox. The victory gave Yuma Catholic 10 wins on the season — the sixth straight year the Shamrocks have reached double-digits. Rhett Stallworth — and the bevy of assistant coaches at Yuma Catholic — have created a self-sufficient program that, once again, is one of the best in the state.

And as the weather has cooled, the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks are once again the last team standing in the area.
