New arts board is on right track
I recently attended a meeting at the Yuma Art Center held by the newly elected board of the Yuma Fine Arts Association. The Yuma Fine Arts Association is a volunteer board that oversees and coordinates the exhibits and events for the Art Center.
The yearly budget for the calendar is primarily funded by membership dues and sponsorships, which allows private funds to be maximized as opposed to tax dollars.
As a longtime supporter of the arts in Yuma and a former member of the board, I am very pleased to see the caliber of the board members and their vision for the future. Rick Ploski was the main speaker and the vice president of the board, who gave a wonderful presentation geared toward respect of the past 50 years of the membership and a new and exciting future for the next 50 years. As a past appointed member of the Art and Cultural Commission, I am very aware of the long and arduous path that led to getting the Art Center built. We have one of the most outstanding art venues in the Southwest and it is maintained and promoted by and for the citizens of Yuma. The quality of a city that supports the arts is a source of pride for all of us and is a tool that helps to bring prospective businesses to Yuma. Please get involved and participate in your Art Center! You just might really enjoy yourself and find something new to brag about in Yuma!
