Yuma police looking for witnesses to recent crash

Yuma police are looking for witnesses to a recent two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 16th Street and Arizona Avenue that left one person injured.

According to Officer Joe Franklin, a spokesman for the Yuma Police Department, the accident happened at 5:29 a.m. Friday and involved a silver 2002 Ford Expedition and a white 1996 Ford Ranger pickup.

Franklin said the investigation revealed that the Ford Expedition, driven by James Stone, 51, of Yuma, was traveling eastbound on 16th Street when it collided with the Ford Ranger, driven by Juan Plaza, 55, of Yuma. The Ranger had been traveling southbound on Arizona Avenue approaching the intersection at 16th Street.

Both drivers told police that they had a green light. Plaza, who was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center, also said he did not remember what had happened.

YPD asks any witnesses to the collision to call Accident Investigator Randy Thompson at 373-4700, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
