Yuma's Best 2012: Da Boyz

Best Family Dining, Best Pizza, 2nd All Around, 2nd Italian

Don't let their loyal customers hear you say the two Da Boyz eateries in the Yuma area are merely pizza and Italian restaurants.

Sure, Da Boyz Pizza & Pasta in Foothills and Da Boyz Italian Cuisine in downtown Yuma serve up a wide variety of pizza, plus spaghetti, lasagna and other pasta dishes.

But repeat customers will tell you that Da Boyz are restaurants that not only serve up great food but are all-around good restaurants that cater specifically to families.

Voters in the Yuma Sun’s Yuma’s Best reader poll for 2012 selected Da Boyz as the Best Family Dining restaurant and Best Pizza restaurant. Da Boyz also won second place in voting for Best Italian restaurant and Best All Around Restaurant.

This is the second consecutive year Da Boyz has claimed the category of Best Family Dining, and Shana Flores, the manager of the Foothills restaurant, says that’s no accident.

The Da Boyz staff builds a rapport with the customers who come through the front door with kids in tow, said Flores.

"I take pride in my waitresses getting to know their customers," she said.

And Da Boyz offers specials that are at once tasty and filling and easy on the pocketbooks of budget-conscious families, she says, citing as one example the Family Feast, consisting of a pizza, two pasta dishes, large salad and garlic bread.

During the cooler months when they’re busier, the restaurants help families avoid long waits for tables by allowing them to call in reservations, said Flores.

Apart from that, Da Boyz does not scrimp on the quality of ingredients, she said.

Even during a recent cold snap that caused a scarcity of lettuce and resulting hike in prices, the restaurants refused to use inferior varieties in order to cut their costs, she said.

"We don’t cut corners. We basically use the best of the best to ensure we put out the same great quality of food."

Aside from pizza, lasagna, spaghetti and other pasta dishes, Da Boyz offers salads, sandwiches, calzones, hot wings, pizza bread and cheese sticks. A popular item offered only at the Foothills restaurant is homemade cheesecake.

Beer and wine are available at the Foothills location, 11274 S. Fortuna Road, while the Yuma restaurant at 284 S. Main St. has a full bar. Phone numbers are 783-8383 in Yuma and 317-1717 in the Foothills.

The Foothills restaurant was the first of the two Da Boyz, opening in 2002. The downtown Yuma restaurant followed in 2010. §
