Yuma's Best 2012: Fifteen years of excellence

Fifteen years ago, the Yuma Sun began polling its readers to find out which were their favorite businesses, service providers and attractions around Yuma County.

The results of that survey, dubbed Yuma’s Best, were revealed in a story that appeared in the newspaper.

Since the initial poll, Yuma’s Best has grown, with new and more categories being added each year. For the 2012 survey, the newspaper asked area residents to pick among businesses and other establishments in more than 150 different categories, ranging from bingo to boating, from plumbing to pest control, barbecue to salad bars, and chiropractic to pediatric care.

So many new categories have been added over the years that the results now must be covered in this special section.

As you read the results for the 2012 survey, you may notice the names of some recurring winners. Indeed, some of them have won in their respective categories every year since Yuma’s Best began.

In some categories, the competition is so intense that first-place honors alternate from year to year among two or more establishments.

For the 2012 poll, Yuma Sun readers had the option of voting by using a ballot that appeared in the newspaper’s print version, or voting online at yumasun.com.
