Man facing kidnapping charge after Saturday incident
A Yuma man is facing kidnapping, endangerment and unlawful flight charges after an incident late Saturday night.
Around 10:40 p.m., officers with the Yuma County Sheriff's Office stopped a brown Jeep Grand Cherokee at Avenue B and 8th Street. The driver, Enrique Rivera, 31, came to a stop on Avenue B near 4th Place.
According to YCSO, as the deputy approached the vehicle, a woman within the vehicle was heard screaming for help. Rivera then drove off with the woman still inside the vehicle.
He allegedly refused to stop for the pursuing law enforcement vehicles but got into a collision at the intersection of Avenue B and 24th Street, YCSO said. Rivera and the woman, a 28-year-old Yuma resident, were both taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Rivera was placed under arrest upon his release from YRMC and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on the charges of kidnapping, endangerment and unlawful flight.
The Yuma Police Department is investigating the collision. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor, officials said.
