Police respond to Yuma High after alleged assault on officer
Student accused of selling marijuana
A Yuma High School student accused of selling marijuana on campus was arrested Friday after allegedly assaulting the school resource officer (SRO). There was no lockdown of the campus and no other students were endangered during the incident, district officials said.
According to the Yuma Police Department, 19-year-old Omar McQueen was taken to the SRO office during an investigation into marijuana possession and sales.
Once in the office, McQueen was informed he was under arrest and allegedly reacted by assaulting the SRO. During the ensuing struggle, the officer called for assistance.
Additional YPD officers responded at about 9:51 a.m. and once on scene used an electronic control device to stun and restrain McQueen.
McQueen was then arrested and later booked into the Yuma County Detention Center. He is being charged with aggravated assault on a police officer as well as possession of marijuana for sale in a drug free school zone.
On his Facebook page, McQueen has posted several photos and comments related to marijuana.
On Tuesday, McQueen posted, "Just realized I’m a natural sales man been selling pple (stuff) scince I was a youngin " natural born hustler"" [sic].
Then on Thursday, he posted a picture of brownies and wrote "1st batch of Brownies done and ready 2 sell; )."
Another person on that thread asked "You selling weed brownies again?" to which McQueen responded "Inbox me."
Apparently, McQueen had just recently returned to YHS as a student. On April 8, he wrote "Well looks like I’m back in skool again:/" [sic], adding his mother had worked with his counselor to get him back in so late in the current school year.
