A Yuma County sheriff's deputy was due to be released from Yuma Regional Medical Center Thursday evening following treatment for injuries suffered in a traffic accident that morning.
The female officer who was not identified suffered bumps and bruises but had no broken bones, sheriff's Capt. Eben Bratcher said.
The officer was traveling westbound on 8th Street responding to an accident when her patrol car struck another vehicle. Bratcher said the second vehicle had entered 8th Street from 24th Avenue. The front of the patrol car struck the driver's side of the other vehicle in a T-bone fashion.
Bratcher said the other driver indicated at the scene that he was not injured.
Bratcher stressed that he was surprised that injuries weren't far worse, given the serious nature of the crash.
"I would say that we're lucky nobody was hurt any more than they were," Bratcher said.
The accident is being investigated by Yuma Police Department. A secondary investigation is being carried out by the sheriff's critical response team.
