Three Yuma schools were placed on lockdown for precautionary reasons for about 20 minutes Thursday afternoon after one of the schools received what later turned out to be a false report of a student with a gun on campus.
Sgt. Leanne Worthen said the incident happened at about 12:28 p.m. when a student reported seeing another student with a gun at Yuma High School, located at 400 S 6th Ave. She said officers immediately put the school and its students on lockdown and searched the school.
Worthen said after searching the school and conducting an investigation, they determined that no gun had ever been brought to the campus and that it was a false report. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 12:58 p.m.
Fourth Avenue Junior High School and Mary E. Post School were also on lockdown as a precaution during the incident.
