One of my favorite places in Ohio is a little pizza shop called the New London Pizza House – or, as my family called it, Fritz's.
My dad started going there as a teen, and eventually became friends with the owner, Larry Fritz. Mr. Fritz allowed my dad to experiment with pizza toppings, which led to the Dinse Special: ham, mushrooms, pepperoni and dill pickles, which is awesome.
When I was a little pipsqueak though, I didn't like pizza. So Mr. Fritz would sit me on the counter and hand me a bowl, which he would fill with whatever toppings I pointed at.
Now, on every trip back to Ohio, the Pizza House is a mandatory stop for me. It's the one place I never skip.
Sadly, Mr. Fritz passed away this week. My dad said he waited in line for two and a half hours to pay his respects – a testament to how beloved Mr. Fritz was. Mr. Fritz, thanks for the memories!
