The Yuma Visitors Bureau exists to promote Yuma as a destination to all kinds of visitors. You are probably aware of the great events that we sponsor to attract the leisure visitors and improve the quality of life for Yumans, but we do so much more than that.
Through our attendance at travel trade shows, we were able to attract the Travel Alliance Partners Board of Directors semiannual board meeting to Yuma. A delegation of 12 officers and two staff members from all over North America arrived in Yuma with little or no exposure to the community. After three days, they left in love with Yuma.
TAP is a partner-owned organization of 31 premier tour operators in the United States and Canada. Each partner operates under the highest standards for business ethics and product quality. The board meets twice a year to develop new and unique itineraries, develop joint marketing opportunities and share best business practices in an environment of mutual trust for the success of each partner.
The Hilton Garden Inn and Pivot Point Conference Center rolled out the red carpet for the directors as they conducted their meetings during the day. At night, attendees were treated to some of Yuma's finest. They experienced the great food of Da Boyz Pizza & Pasta, Tina's Cocina, Catering By Design and Great American Grill. They bottled and sampled the fare at Yuma's Main Squeeze and learned how to make tamales.
The group was treated to a wonderful evening jet boat ride on the Colorado River, thanks to Yuma River Tours, where Mother Nature put on a spectacular show.
Sandi Pufahl of Fancy-Free Holidays and president of TAP commented, “Yuma has blown us away! Just an incredible experience, so diverse. We have found many opportunities for tour groups.”
All of the operators in attendance were considering tours to Yuma when they left. One is planning a tour of Arizona with Yuma as a major stop, another is planning a tour to San Diego, Palm Springs and Yuma and yet another is thinking Mystery Tour to Yuma. Other partners are particularly interested in our Field to Feast and Savor Yuma tours as part of our agritourism programs.
“WOW — Yuma has so much to offer group tours! Wonderful hospitality, amazing history, fantastic food and surprising scenery. I am looking forward to bringing my next group to Yuma,” said Shawn Horman, vice president of the TAP marketing committee and owner of Western Leisure.
On April 30, YVB will be hosting a Yuma's Calling Extravaganza at the Yuma Palms RV Resort. At this one-day event, Yuma community representatives will come together to place more than 10,000 phone calls inviting groups of all kinds to Yuma. These calls and eventual leads will result in more tour groups, conventions, meetings and sports events being held in Yuma and that is great news for the Yuma economy.
Like the TAP board of directors and the many other first-time visitors to Yuma, once they stop and stay in Yuma, they quickly and easily fall in love with Yuma.
If you are interested in being involved in this one-day event of fun, food and excitement, please give the Yuma Visitors Bureau a call at 376-0100 to sign up for an hour or the entire day.
