Mildrima Lim leads by example and never hesitates to jump in and serve.
The director of nursing at Life Care Center of Yuma gets to know her patients personally and follows through with their care even after they've been discharge from the facility.
For these and other reasons, Lim received the Life Care Centers of America's 2013 Mary Denton service award on April 22.
The award honors individuals who provide the “highest level of caring service” to the residents of Life Care's skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
It is named for a former resident who was committed to welcoming new residents and making them feel at home.
“By her work and by her love, Mildrima sets and lives the standard of what a great director of nursing should be,” Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, said.
“Her nursing skills, her teaching capabilities and her compassion bring healing, hope and inspiration to residents, their families and the staff she directs.”
Lim was honored during the Life Care Centers of America's Directors of Nursing meeting. Although she was unable to attend the meeting in Cleveland, Tenn., she joined the awards ceremony via Skype.
As director of nursing at the Yuma facility for the past five and a half years, Lim was praised for:
• Leading the nursing team at the facility to positive annual state surveys, currently the highest in Yuma.
• Facilitating good relationships among her nursing staff members, leading to low department turnover.
• Helping her nursing associates grow their skills to serve higher-acuity patients.
• Leading by example, never hesitating to jump in and serve.
• Getting to know her patients personally and following through with their care even after they discharge from the facility.
“We always say, ‘the friendliest and the cleanest' every day, and we achieve it,” Lim said.
“The entire staff at Yuma has sincere respect and love for her,” Jeff Pittard, executive director, said. “Mildrima makes you feel important, and I view this characteristic as one of the most important because when someone feels loved and appreciated, they are more likely to work hard and do what's right for our patients.”
