Many pet owners will take drastic measures when it comes to their beloved furry friends.
The newest step? Giving medical marijuana to pets in pain.
According to the Associated Press, a veterinarian in Los Angeles is a big advocate.
He first tried it out on his dog during her final weeks, and the dog stopped whimpering, started eating again and gaining weight. He estimates it gave him six extra weeks with his dog before he had to let her go.
The problem is, marijuana is still an illicit drug under federal law.
It's a tough choice to make. Do you break the law to ease your pet's pain, or do you watch them suffer until the end? Or, when the end appears inevitable, do you euthanize them, which some argue allows them to exit with grace?
It will be interesting to see what the ramifications are as medical marijuana continues to gain momentum.
