You might have seen the recent story about a Peoria mother asking for donations to pay for her daughter's rent after her daughter broke both her feet while trying to jump from a roof to a pool.
A YouTube video shows her hesitating and missing the pool. “I'm posting this, cause she needs help with medical bills, and living expenses.”
My first instinct was less than sympathetic. Why should we pay for her mistake? What kind of lesson would she learn if everyone else paid for her lack of judgment? I noticed most readers felt the same way, judging from the comments.
But my husband's reaction took me by surprise. Why not help her? Isn't she already paying for her mistake? Won't she be stuck in a wheelchair for months, followed by more months of therapy and pain?
It made me think maybe I judged her too harshly. We've all made dumb mistakes. And I'm sure she's already learned plenty from this experience. I wish her a speedy recovery.
