If I ever get my 1966 Mustang to the point where I can take my wife out for a comfortable cruise, one of the places I'd like to go is 4th Avenue on any Saturday night, where a bunch of classic hot rodders congregate in the Fry's parking lot, facing Yuma's main drag.
I've always wanted to park alongside those beautiful machines.
But I may have waited too long.
The new fuel station at Fry's is being constructed in the same place the rodders have parked for years. This is not aimed at Fry's. I applaud the chain's economic foresight.
The rodders, however, are now parking behind the fuel station, and the way I see it, that's just not right. They need to be visible by passers-by on 4th Avenue who often honk, wave and pull in to check out the cool machines.
Whatever the outcome, should these rodders become parking lot nomads, I hope this long-standing tradition doesn't drive off into the sunset.
