As part of a new $1K for 1K initiative, $1,000 scholarships are being offered to 1,000 potential teachers across the state looking to participate in the Arizona Teacher Preparation program.
The Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation assists those who have already received a bachelor's degree to earn their teacher certification.
The Arizona State School Board recently unanimously approved The American Board, who recently launched the Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation, as an official route to Arizona teacher certification. It has been recognized with assisting those interested in education to overcome obstacles in attaining certification and also for helping schools and districts with their struggle to recruit and train teachers.
“Every student deserves to have teachers who are experts in their subject areas, and the Arizona Center for Teacher Preparation provides a rigorous, expedited, and cost-effective route to teacher certification for professionals with undergraduate degrees, especially those in STEM fields,” said Gov. Jan Brewer. “I congratulate the Arizona Center as it officially launches its program in Arizona so more can obtain their teacher certification and begin inspiring young minds throughout this great state.”
She added that this program is especially important considering the current teacher shortage in areas of math and science. Brewer stated that only 10 percent of eighth-graders in Arizona have math teachers who hold an undergraduate degree in mathematics.
Arizona Teacher Preparation scholarships are being offered through Sept. 15.
