Yuma Border Patrol apprehends escaped convict, 6 drug suspects, seizes 270 pounds of marijuana
U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector apprehended an escaped convict, arrested six drug smuggling suspects and seized 270 pounds of marijuana in two separate incidents over the weekend.
According to agent Kyle Estes, of the Yuma Sector's Communications Division, after receiving a stolen vehicle alert on Saturday, agents from the Blythe Station stopped a 2001 Chevy Silverado near the intersection of Ogilby Road and Highway 78.
The driver, as it turned out, had reportedly stolen the vehicle following his escape from the Ironwood facility earlier in the day. Agents took the man into custody without incident and turned him over to the California Highway Patrol.
In another incident the same day, agents from Wellton Station arrested six Mexican nationals near mile marker 98 on Interstate 8 for allegedly smuggling a combined 270 pounds of marijuana.
The men, along with the estimated $135,000 worth of narcotics, were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
