Talk about baby mania; the birth of the third-in-line heir to the British throne was a long wait for news reporters who were camped in London for over a week. The frenzy on Monday morning was just the culmination of nine months worth of guessing games during the pregnancy. Thank goodness there were no reports during labor; there has to be some privacy left in the world!
I don’t remember the births of Princes William and Harry being followed so closely by the American media. But royals fever has grown since William and Kate’s courtship and marriage. I feel sorry for them and for their new son, who will be in the spotlight all of his life. They didn’t ask for the celebrity status.
I applaud William and Kate for attempting to live a somewhat normal life; it must be extremely difficult to have to plan your life in secret. Being royalty comes with a terrific price.
