The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man in connection with a shooting Monday morning in which one person was shot multiple times.
According to Alfonso Zavala, YCSO public information officer, a deputy was conducting a pro-active patrol in the Donovan Estates area at approximately 3 a.m. when he heard multiple gunshots being fired.
“It is not a targeted area, but it is an area we patrol as much as possible,” Zavala said.
In the meantime, while the deputy was attempting to locate the source of the gunshots, Zavala said the sheriff's office received reports that a shooting had occurred in the 8200 block of South Coconino Lane.
Deputies responded to the area, and upon their arrival, located a 37-year-old male standing in the street calling for help. He had been shot several times.
Zavala said the victim, whose name is not being released, was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural/Metro ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators later received information that the victim had been at a friend's house where a fight took place leading up to the shooting.
“It is unknown if the victim was shot by the same person he had the altercation with or someone else,” Zavala said.
Zavala said no description of the suspect is available because the victim did not see who shot him.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau is currently investigating the incident. Anyone with any information concerning this investigation is asked to contact Detective Ashby at the Yuma Sheriff's Office at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
