People hoping to earn their GED will have that opportunity during an upcoming five-week training course.
Adult Literacy Plus of Southwest Arizona is holding a GED Boot Camp that will begin Monday, Sept. 16. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day.
Instructor Jesse Figueroa said that with the GED shifting to a more rigorous and time-intensive exam in 2014, "this is the perfect time to get prepared for the exam."
While currently it can take up to six months to prepare for the GED exam, the boot camp is designed to have students complete their preparation time in as little as five weeks said Figueroa, noting that it is estimated that the new version of the GED will require up to a full year of instruction for full exam preparation.
Students interested in participating in the upcoming GED Boot Camp program, which will be taught by a GED instructor with over 12 years of experience in GED education, are required to meet with Figueroa before Friday, Sept. 13. Students must also have a current progress test prior to enrollment.
The Official GED exam will be administered at the end of the course.
Figueroa shared that a minimal fee will be applied to the class for materials depending on each student's individual economic status. He commented that students will be required to pay between $60 to $100 in fees.
A nonprofit GED preparation school in Yuma, he said that Adult Literacy Plus of Southwest Arizona exists to help increase literacy levels in the community which will in turn lead to more employment and post-secondary education opportunities.
