A Mexican citizen was was arrested Thursday after allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly 23 pounds of cocaine into the United States through the Port of San Luis. The cocaine has an estimated street value of more than $207,000.
A 24-year-old woman driving a Lincoln SUV was directed to a secondary inspection area by Customs and Border Protection officers after a working dog indicated the possible presence of contraband in the vehicle.
During a search of the SUV, officers reportedly located nine packages of cocaine hidden behind a speaker box.
The drugs and vehicle were seized. The woman was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
