Cibola split a pair of games Friday on the second day of the Sandra Day O'Connor tournament.
The Raiders had a walkoff 5-4 win against Deer Valley, then had a comeback fall short in a 8-7 loss to Cactus.
Nadia Hernandez picked up the win in relief. Alyssa Gallegos had the game winning single, scoring Bethany Olea — who had a 3 for 3 game.
Against Cactus, the Raiders trailed 8-2 in the top of the seventh but had eight straight runners reach base. Olea went 3 for 4 and Alexis Evans had a 2 for 2 game.
The Raiders finish play in the tournament today.
AWC camp starts April 9
The Arizona Western College Spring Power Tumbling Clinics will be held each week from April 9 through May 30 at The House.
AWC head cheer team coach Tiffany Minnick and AWC assistant cheer and tumbling coach Matt Graef will provide instruction to children ages 5-18 of all skill levels. The series of clinics will be held every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon beginning April 9, with a clinic for beginning and intermediate level tumblers from 5 p.m. until 5:45, and one for advanced level tumblers immediately following that at 6 p.m. The cost of the clinic is $80, which covers the seven-week duration of the clinics.
Minnick and Graef have designed an environment in which safety is the main focus, and will be strongly practiced during each activity, allowing students to develop their skills and improve their techniques at their pace. The coaches will work with every student at every skill level to improve their abilities in tumbling — from the beginner who hasn't learned any part of the skills yet; to the intermediate-level tumbler who can perform roundoffs, strong backbends and solid cartwheels; to the advanced-level tumbler who knows how to perform back and front walkovers and back handsprings (with light or no spot).
