Local art classes begin this month
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Get ready to paint, create and imagine in a brand new series of adult and youth art classes presented by the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area and the Yuma Art Center.
Artist Pam Jersey Bird will be teaching art classes starting this month and continuing through February.
Dorothy Woung, event coordinator for Heritage Festival, said that it is a great opportunity for people in Yuma to take classes from an outside Yuma talent.
Bird has been involved in art for much of her life. She received a bachelor's degree in art education, and worked in advertising and graphic design. She worked as an art museum educator and managed to teach art classes. She has also participated as an artist-in-residence at California and Oregon schools.
Although Bird is now retired from teaching and living in Oregon, she still manages to inspire people to create and draw in community college classes and art workshops.
On Feb. 22, at 5 p.m to 7 p.m., there will be a reception for Bird at the Yuma Art Center Museum. Those students who attend the art classes will also be given a chance to display their art in the Yuma Art Center Museum starting Feb. 22-29.
