The 60's Summer of Love at fair this weekend

Music lovers wanting to return to the rock 'n' roll glory days of the ’60s only need to mosey over to the Yuma County Fair.

A retro musical group is hitting the stage Friday through Sunday at the fair, and organizers are predicting a rush of memories for everyone within earshot.

"These guys really take you back," said Scott Thomas, owner of That's Entertainment International. "Musically, when you listen to them, you just remember the times when you were growing up.

"If you weren't growing up back then, so many of these songs have been used on movie soundtracks. They're just as familiar to the younger people."

The band is called The 60's Summer of Love. The five musicians are based out of Reno, Nev., but perform mostly at fairs and festivals in the Western states.

The 60's Summer of Love will perform at the Yuma County Fair with this schedule:

  • Shows at 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday

  • Shows at 2 p.m.., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday

  • Shows at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The band will make its appearances on the county fair's Main Stage. All the shows are free.

The musicians won't be hard to spot, either. The four fellows and sole lady truly dress the part, donning costumes ranging from Woodstock to British Invasion styles.

"They are just a spoof on the ’60s," Thomas said. "They are really good, too. Their vocals are the tightest part."

He added that audiences can expect to hear music representing an assortment of styles and scenes.

"They do everything, from the Beach Boys all the way to Woodstock. People just have to come here them. They really are quite incredible."

The folks making up The 60's Summer of Love are all veteran musicians with long resumes in show business. "They have been doing this for a long time," Thomas said.

The group has performed with or opened for such big names as Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits, Peter Rivera of Rare Earth and The Guess Who.
