NAU-Yuma Classic Film Series: '39 Steps'
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Orson Welles, James Dean, Gary Cooper and Francis Ford Coppola are coming to the AWC and NAU-Yuma campus and the public is invited.
The NAU Classic Film Series, titled "Identity, Alienation and Ethical Choice," begins this Sunday with a showing of the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film "The 39 Steps," and will continue through April.
The film series has been offered annual at NAU's main campus in Flagstaff, and this year for the first time, the university's College of Arts and Letters is making it available to the Yuma branch, said Ross Brooke Ettle, grants officer for NAU-Yuma.
"Understanding what is happening with modern film, you need to come back to the 20th century. (It) helps people develop a cinematic critical vocabulary of the past classics," Ettle said.
The films can be incorporated into course content at NAU-Yuma, she said, but "we want the public to engage in this kind of intellectual exchange" as well.
The films will be shown at the AWC Theatre at AWC and NAU-Yuma campus at 6500 E. County 10th St. The films are all free and all begin at 5 p.m.
