Among the stars performing for Saturday's "Evening with the Orchestra" at the Historic Yuma Theatre will be the Twinklers, youngest of the String Ambassadors, plus a 5-year-old violinist and one that plays the strings at age 72.

The event is set for 7 p.m. at the Historic Yuma Theatre.

Janet Jones, director of the musical groups, said, "Kathy Younker will be conducting the Twinklers and String Ambassadors for the opening part of the concert. Their music will be lighter."

The Twinklers will play selections ranging from Beethoven to Brubaker, followed by the Young String Ambassadors with a variety from 'Hunter's Chorus' by Von Weber, through Bach, Paganini, Schumann and a 'Can, Can' by Offenbach.

The String Ambassadors will do "dance" numbers: "Simple Gift" by M. Naughtin, "Czardas" by Monti and "Jig" by G. Holst.

Winding up the first portion of the concert will be the combined String Ambassadors with a rousing "Orange Blossom Special" by Rouse.

After intermission, the Yuma Civic Orchestra, with 32 members, will perform more classical selections, conducted by Jones.

Sheryl Clifton will be soloist for the "Flute Concerto, Allegro" by Mozart.

"Trumpet Concerto, Moderato" by Vivaldi, will be played by Chris Davis and Randy Wright.

Orchestra selections will be Bach's " Brandenburg #6 Moderato," Elgar's "Enigma Variations, Nimrod" and Mendelssohn's "New Hebrides, Fingal's Cave."

Admission to the program at 254 S. Main St. is $10 per person, $15 per couple, $5 students, military, and seniors.
