Ballet Yuma presents classics and Dr. Seuss
Fans of the art of ballet have the opportunity to experience a contrast dance themes.
Starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Ballet Yuma will be on stage at Snider Auditorium, 400 6th Ave., opening with classical selections. The second half will be "Ballet de Seuss," danced by students in the Yuma Ballet Academy.
Tickets are $10, $12 and $15, all reserved seating, available at Dillard's in the Yuma Palms Regional Center. For additional information, call 314-4762.
The four classical selections by Ballet Yuma are:
-"Pas de Quatre," restaged by Kathleen Sinclair after the Lester reconstruction of the original 1845 choreography by Jules Perrot.
-"I Vespri Verdi," danced by Rochelle Zide-Booth, international instructor, former ballerina and guest teacher for Ballet Yuma.
-"An Uncertain Awaken- ing," a modern piece by Ballet Yuma's Emma M.K. Cong.
-"Pour Laisser," by apprentice dancers.
Part two - "Ballet de Seuss" - features familiar characters from the works of Dr. Seuss.
Among these are, in "The sun was not shining", Mariah Werley as the girl; the boy, Dominic Gizzi; the fish, Alyssa Myers; the cat, Lorelei Bensel; thing one, Morgan Frandsen, and thing two, Bethany Johnson. Understudies are Marissa Rubio, Taylor Bingham, Brooke Frandsen, Alyssa Taylor and Kayley Melton.
Cast for "It's hard to believe": Ebony Broom, Paige Frandsen, Hailey Hancock, Tiffany Jones, Karissa Matlock, Breanna McCauley, Alexandria Pena, Arielle Rodriguez, Alexandria Urias, Rebecca Sorenson, Carina Gresham, Delaney Medina, Danielle Monroe, Halen McBride, McKinley Munk and Kaitlin Warford.
Also performing are Maria Mejia, Chelsea Estes, Taylor Owens, Ariane Guthrie, Nicole Facio, Keely Misenhimer, Pamela Romero, Hailey Savage and Andrea Hennig.
Additional cast members for "There once was a girl-bird" and "On the beaches": Alexis Gresham, Nicolette Gutierrez, Mara Mejia, Mia Armijo, Olivia Donnelly, Samantha Byrd, Isabela Chavez, Cissy Pajas, Philip Desposito and Paige Frandsen.
