Sisters in 'Nunsense' rely on ingenuity
When the Little Sisters of Hoboken, N.J., are faced with a serious problem, they must rely on talent and ingenuity for a solution.
The musical, "Nunsense" relates the tale as the opening production of the Yuma Community Theater season, on weekends from Oct. 27 through Nov. 12 at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St.
The problem:
It all started when Sister Julia - Child of God - the convent cook, made a batch of vichyssoise soup. Immediately after consuming the soup, 52 of the sisters died of botulism.
What to do?
When the Mother Superior Sister Regina and four other nuns returned from playing bingo - they had not had the soup - they arranged to bury 48 of the dead sisters but, alas, there were no funds to bury the last four "Blue Nuns," who were being kept in the freezer.
Solution:
Getting their act together, the surviving sisters decided to put on a musical benefit to raise funds for the burial. They recruited the assistance of Brother Ralph, from the parish, for the show, complete with music, dances and "nun" humor.
