Sea of Cortez visited in photos
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Photos of the Sea of Cortez, also known as the Gulf of California, will give a visual our of the waterway that is Mexico's most important fisheries region.
The Sea of Cortez is surrounded by the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit.
A reception for the photographers of the exhibit at the Yuma Art Center Galleries, 254 S. Main St., will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, hosted by the Cultural Council of Yuma and Instituto Sonorense de Cultura (Sonoran Cultural Institute).
One of the exhibitors is Bob Rink, retired after serving as the photographer for the city of Phoenix for 25 years. His photos have been published in Arizona Highways and other state publications, Sunset magazine, USA Today, Washington Post and others.
He and his sister have an annual photo festival with the Sonoran institute in Alamos that travels the state of Sonora.
Gustavo Ybarra, another of the exhibiting photographers, has been credited with photos of the elusive vaquita, the world's smallest and most critically endangered porpoise, along with other sea images.
A biochemist in marine biology and a wildlife photographer, Carlos Navarro's works will be in the collection.
More photographers whose works will be on display in the West Gallery until June 20 are Sylvia Gomez Jimenez, Ph.D., Pilar Artola de Salido, Rene R. Cloutier, James Todd and Rick Skamser.
