In the play "Vanities," lives of three small-town girls are revealed, from their friendship from their cheerleader years through college sororities and later adulthood.

It is set in 1963, 1968 and 1974.

The Yuma production by 5 Point Theatre, directed by Pat Quinn, opened Tuesday evening at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St., is based on the script by Jack Heifner, playwright.

The play continues at 7 p.m. every day through Saturday.

Admission to "Vanities" is $5 at the door.

The cast of the bittersweet comedy includes:

-Joanne, a Southern belle who ends up as a happy homemaker, is played by Amy Violette. In real life, she is a drama teacher at Cibola High School.

-Kathy, the most organized of the group, grappled with a career choice and finally learned to enjoy her life and not control it. She is played by Allyse Rust. Rust was a student of Violette and worked at the Yuma Art Center with Pat Quinn.

-Mary, the "wild one" who traveled to Europe to experience life and remained laughably flamboyant, is portrayed by Adrianna Tansey. Tansey, the 2006 Yuma Idol, has also been active with Yuma Community Theater.

Quinn said, "Nikki Olsen (a drama teacher at Yuma High School) and I were among the 'founders' of the 5 Point Theatre, and are still involved. The name was selected after many discussions, ending with the number five, which stresses the attributes we offer the community with acting and stage events."
