The Yuma Community Foundation is accepting nominations for its annual Heart of Yuma recognition awards.

The awards are presented to the area residents who have made a difference in the community.

The ninth annual awards presentation event will take place Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. on the Sunset Terrace of the Yuma Civic Center.

The public is invited to nominate individuals in the categories of Outstanding Volunteer, Outstanding Leader, Outstanding Benefactor, Outstanding For Profit Corporation and Outstanding Nonprofit Corporation.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Sept. 12.

Criteria used in evaluating nominees include community involvement, leadership, initiative and contributions.

The nominations will be reviewed by a panel comprised of Yuma County residents and the YCF advisory board. The panel will also choose the Philanthropist of the Year, the individual who transcends all Heart of Yuma categories and whose contributions to Yuma County are truly exceptional. Past Philanthropists of the Year include F.C. "Frosty" Braden, Donald N. Soldwedel, Rose and Steve Sturges, Alexander Dees, Glen Curtis, Jones Osborn, Ron Martin and Louise Barkley.

Nominations may be submitted by e-mail at jgresser@azfoundation.org, faxed to 783-3544 or mailed to: Yuma Community Foundation, P.O. Box 6835, Yuma 85366.

Nominations should include nominee contact information.
