Agents arrest drug smuggling suspects

Two drug smuggling suspects were arrested and nearly 100 pounds of marijuana seized Saturday by agents with the Yuma Sector Border Patrol.

The incident began at about 6 a.m. when agents assigned to the Wellton Station patrolling near mile marker 100 on Interstate 8 encountered two men carrying backpacks.

Agents were able to arrest one man, but the other fled. Agents followed the second man's footprints for more than an hour before catching and arresting him.

The pot, worth an estimated $48,000, along with both Mexican citizens, were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
