Fee-free recreation this weekend

Yuma-area residents and visitors will be able to enjoy Bureau of Land Management recreation areas this weekend without paying an entrance fee.

The fee-free days, held in observance of Veterans Day, are Saturday through Monday.

Fee-free areas will include Squaw Lake Campground and boat launch, Senator Wash boat ramp and day-use area, Senator Wash North Shore Campground, Senator Wash South Shore Campground, Oxbow Recreation and Wildlife Area, and Ehrenberg Sandbowl Off-Highway Vehicle Area.

Betty's Kitchen Watchable Wildlife Area just north of Yuma remains closed to the public because of damage caused during the Laguna Fire in May 2011.

While entrance onto BLM lands during the weekend will be free, fees for overnight camping, concessions and group day-use will remain in effect.

“These fee-free days will provide a great opportunity to visit a new area and explore the wonder of your public lands,” said Roxie Trost, BLM Colorado River District manager.

“This is also a great way to help some folks, who might otherwise not have the opportunity, to experience their public lands and develop a passion for them as others have.”
