Recreation cleanup set for Saturday

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Arizona Game and Fish Department are seeking volunteers to help clean up recreation sites in the Yuma area.

The agencies will host a cleanup day from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in observance of National Public Lands Day. Volunteers are encouraged to wear gloves, hats and plenty of sunscreen, and to bring water to drink.

The staging area will be at Mittry Lake Recreation Area, about eight miles northeast of Yuma. All volunteers must register and receive a safety briefing prior to the cleanup.

To arrive at the staging area, turn north off Highway 95 at Avenue 7E. Follow 7E until it turns into a dirt road. Continue on the dirt road about two miles to the Mittry Lake Boat Ramp.

Upon completion of the briefing, volunteers will be assigned a recreation area to clean such as Fortuna Pond, Redondo Pond or Mittry Lake.

T-shirts will be given to the first 100 volunteers who register, and hot dogs will be served at the end of the event.

For more information, call Lori Cook at 317-3243 or Chris Bedinger at 342-0091.
