Man arrested in pot-smuggling attempt
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the San Luis port of entry Wednesday after officers found more than 235 pounds of marijuana in a van, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
A narcotics detector dog detected the presence of drugs in a van being driven from Mexico. A search by CBP officers led to the discovery of pot in 183 packages hidden in the roof and other parts of the van, CBP said in a news release.
The street value of the pot was estimated at nearly $400,000, CBP said.
The bust occurred Wednesday morning after the driver of the 1994 Ford Econoline van displayed apprehensive behavior and gave contradictory answers to officers' questions, CBP said.
The driver was referred to a secondary inspection area, where the dog was called in. The driver was not identified, but CBP said he is a U.S. citizen.
