Man threatens former co-workers with machete

A machete-wielding man, distraught over losing his job, is behind bars after he chased and threatened several former co-workers at the company where he once worked.

Yuma police say 39-year-old Vincent Arroyo was arrested Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Associated Citrus, located in the 600 block of S. Main Street, following a series of incidents involving its employees and property.

"Arroyo was recently released from employment and today, made some threats to other employees," a news release from the Yuma Police Department indicated.

According to Yuma police, Arroyo was armed with a machete during the course of the incident, in which he chased and threated several former employees around the property.

Arroyo also caused criminal damage to one vehicle, along with some doors and windows on the property. The damage to the vehicle included smashing several windows.

Yuma police arrived on scene and attempted to stop Arroyo, but he refused to comply with their orders. Officers used an electric stun gun on Arroyo and were able to safely arrest him.

Arroyo, however, suffered minor injuries when he broke a window on one of the buildings. None of the Associated Citrus employees were injured in the incident.

Arroyo was booked into the Yuma County jail on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, threatening and intimidating, and criminal damage. His bail was set at $1 million.

The Yuma police encourages anyone with any information about the case to contact the YPD at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
