Missing ATM found in burned stolen vehicle
An ATM stolen from a restaurant Saturday morning was found a short time later in a vehicle that had been set on fire.
Burglars broke into Brewers Restaurant and Sports Bar, 2331 S. Avenue B, shortly before 6 a.m. and removed the ATM. The door to the business had been pulled from the hinges and the ATM was taken, police said.
At 6:40 a.m. firefighters responding to a report of a vehicle fire below the Avenue 3E railroad bridge found a Jeep Cherokee ablaze.
Firefighters put out the fire and found the missing ATM inside the burned vehicle. The Jeep had been reported stolen in June.
An undisclosed amount of money was missing from the ATM, Sgt. Leanne Worthen said.
The Yuma Police Department urges anyone with information about this case to call (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.
“We encourage anyone who might have been in the area before or after and seen something suspicious. Any little piece of information they have might help us put this together. It's still under investigation,” Worthen said.
