The public is invited to attend a training session Thursday on Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The session, sponsored by the Yuma Union High School District and Cibola High School, will will provide an overview of the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders and offer teaching, behaviorand classroom management strategies.
A short video presentation on sensory processing disorders will provide tbasic information about our sensory systems, and solutions for home and school for those who suffer from a sensory processing disorder. Participants will get to participate in simulations that will explore the function of sensory systems.
The training will take place at 7 p.m. at the Media Center at Cibola High School, 4100 W. 20th St. For more information, call Lisa Domby at Cibola, 502-5700.
The training is being held as part of the observance in April of Autism Awareness Month.

Sen. Aguirre hosts mental health summit
Mental health care providers are invited to a summit Friday hosted by Yuma state Sen. Amanda Aguirre.
The summit will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Intervention Associatees, located in Tuscany Plaza, 2851 S. Avenue B, Building No. 4.
Aguirre, recently appointed to the newly developed Governor's Team on Mental Health, is seeking ideas from providers on how to improve mental health care in Yuma and La Paz counties.

Yuma High hosts event for incoming freshmen
Eighth-graders who will attend Yuma High in the call are invited to bring their parents to Eighth Grade Parent/Student Visitation day Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the school, 400 S. 6th Ave.
Incoming freshman and their parents will receive information about the 2009-10 school year and will be given a tour of the campus.
The event will be kicked off by an ice cream party in the cafeterial at 5:30 p.m. An assembly will follow at 6:15 p.m. in Snider Auditorium. Self-guided tours will follow at 6:50 p.m.

Extension office hosts citrus clinic
The Yuma County Cooperative Extension office will host a free clinic on April 29 for residents who have questions about citus trees.
The Spring Advance Master Gardener Citrus Clinic will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the extension office, 2200 W. 28th St., Suite 102.
