Avenue A project to be explained Thursday
The city of Yuma will begin resurfacing the asphalt along Avenue A between 16th and 8th streets Oct. 1. The project is expected to be completed by January.
The city will host a public information meeting Thursday to inform motorists about how their daily routines may be affected.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of O.C. Johnson School, corner of Avenue A and 12th Street.
The project will primarily include the removal and replacement of about 24,800 square yards of asphaltic concrete pavement and other materials as needed. It has been about 30 years since the roadway was replaced.
In addition, all water service lines along this segment of Avenue A will be replaced, the minor water distribution lines improved and several fire hydrants switched out. The size of the storm water line across Avenue A at 13th Place will also be increased.
The construction will be done during daylight hours and may cause detours.
The contract for the project, which will cost a little less than $1.3 million, has been awarded to DPE Construction.
