AWC holding auditions for theatre productions
Arizona Western College will be holding auditions in September for three upcoming productions happening this fall.
Auditions for the AWC Theatre productions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the AWC Theater.
The first production, “An Evening of Improv,” will require those auditioning to take part in various improvisation games as part of the audition process.
This show, directed by AWC Theatre major Mateo Brooks, opens on Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the AWC Theater and will be shown twice.
“Rocky,” another production, will require auditioners to pantomime actions of their chosen Rocky character in a non-Rocky situation, said Chip Straley, AWC professor of theater. He added that there should be no speaking during the auditions.
The show will be directed by AWC Theatre major Matthew Richards and will take over the AWC Theater at midnight on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27.
Straley said that because “Rocky” is an R-rated production, those 17-years-old or younger are not allowed to audition without a parent or legal guardian present who is as least 21. Written consent is also required.
Lastly, “He Who Gets Slapped: the Musical!” will require auditioners to give a one-minute monologue as well as a verse and a refrain of a song from a produced musical. Straley asks that no popular music be played.
Those auditioning should bring a CD with the accompanying music or sheet music for their audition.
The musical, described as a world premiere musical, was written by Claralisa Ortega and Jack Marshall and will be directed by Straley. It opens Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the AWC Theater and will run for a total of eight performances.
