    Mardi Gras Block Party Friday

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Colorful beads and Cajun music will fill Main Street Friday night as Fort Yuma Rotary stages its annual Mardi Gras Block Party.

The festival will run from 6 to 11:30 p.m. in historic downtown Yuma.

There will be a costume contest, plus a live performance by Billy Lee and the Swamp Critters.

The Rotary club uses proceeds from the block party to benefit youth scholarships and local nonprofit organizations such as Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, Amberly’s Place, The Boys and Girls Club and Habitat for Humanity.

To find artwork to use in advertising the event, the club sponsored a contest open to Yuma-area high school students. Winners were:

    • First place - Vanessa Iturbide, San Luis High School.

    • Second place - Carlos Manning, San Luis High School.

    • Third place - Clarisa Castro, Gila Ridge High School.
