2 die in fiery crash east of Yuma

Two motorists traveling on Interstate 8 died in a single-vehicle collision Saturday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident happened at about 10:40 a.m. as the two were traveling in a passenger car eastbound on the freeway at milepost 31.7.

The vehicle left the roadway for an unspecified reason and struck a tree. Upon impact, both the tree and the car caught fire. Both occupants were severely injured and died as their car burned.

Their identities and place of residence were not released to the public as of press time Saturday. No other information was available. The incident is being investigated by DPS.
