Rally Day to promote events center
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Supporters of the proposed multipurpose events center invite the public to a rally day to learn more about the center, enjoy entertainment and meet the president of the Arizona Sundogs hockey team that anchors the Prescott Valley arena.
The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Yuma Palms Regional Center in front of Buffalo Wild Wings.
The event is hosted by Buffalo Wild Wings and HEAT (Bring Hockey, Entertainment and Tourism to Yuma) in Support of Proposition 400. HEAT is a political action committee formed to promote the center and to encourage a "yes" vote on Proposition 400.
The proposition on the Nov. 4 general election ballot asks city voters to decide whether they support the city of Yuma proceeding with plans to develop the center.
During Wednesday's rally, the community is invited to come out and play "street" hockey for fun and prizes, and meet Steve Cherwonak of the Central Hockey League Arizona Sundogs and Burnie the official mascot. Live music will be provided by Demise of Hollywood.
"The event is being held to increase the public's awareness of the center," and the benefits it would offer the community, said Jeanine Rhea, a member of HEAT. In addition, she said, "It will be a great way for people to come out and show their support for the center."
HEAT members will have information available about the proposed project and be available to answer questions about it and the entertainment district that would be established if the arena moves forward to help fund the project.
A portion of proceeds from all Buffalo Wings sales for the event will go towards supporting HEAT.
