Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Yuma residents who are not yet registered to vote in city elections have until Aug. 3 to register to vote in the Sept. 1 primary races for mayor and city council seats.

Four candidates will be running for mayor, while eight candidates will be vying for three council seats. Incumbent Municipal Judge Doug Stanley, whose current term expires this year, is uncontested in his bid for re-election.

Residents can register to vote at the Yuma County Recorder's Office, 410 S. Maiden Lane, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; by mail by using postage-paid forms available in the city clerk's office at Yuma City Hall, One City Plaza, or at post offices and Yuma County libraries, or online by logging on to www.servicearizona.com.

The city election is nonpartisan.

Mayoral candidates are incumbent Larry Nelson, Al Krieger, Jack Kretzer, Ken Spencer and Elgin Everly.

Competing for the three council seats are incumbents Ema Lea Shoop and Paul Johnson, and Bobbi Brooks Gurrola, Jerry Stuart, Edward C. Thomas, Emma Torres, Brian K. Stephens and Clinton Underhill.
