Public invited to open house about busy intersection
As a plan moves forward for the redevelopment of the 4th Avenue-16th Street intersection and surrounding area, the public is invited to an open house to review the plan and provide feedback.
The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Yuma City Hall, Rooms 141-142.
The area has been identified as needing roadway improvements to the congested intersection while encouraging revitalization of the commercial corridor.
To that end, the Yuma City Council earlier this year approved extending the Yuma North End Redevelopment District south to include the busy intersection. That paved the way to establish a Planning Area Advisory Committee to include private property owners who have been working with city staff and the city's planning consultants to craft the redevelopment concept and its implementation strategy.
“The Yuma North End 16th Street and 4th Avenue Redevelopment Plan is an important document that supports the vision and goals of the city of Yuma, and when implemented will allow greater economic opportunities and better traffic flow along the 4th Avenue and 16th Street gateway corridors,” said Noah Cullis, city senior planner.
The proposed Yuma North End 16th Street and 4th Avenue Redevelopment Plan addresses the following:
• Design and implement a traffic plan at 4th Avenue and 16th Street that will move traffic safely and efficiently while facilitating major private investment and redevelopment of all for corners of this intersection.
• Provide an economic “tool kit” to make it easier for business and property owners to reinvest in their properties all along the northern stretch of 4th Avenue.
• Create a foundation of regulatory flexibility to provide the city the opportunity to facilitate private small property reinvestment in existing properties while achieving developmental code compliance over time.
