Somerton offers fishing clinic for area youths
SOMERTON — Cast those lines out and reel 'em in.
The Somerton Parks and Recreation Department will offer a fishing clinic for the city's youths Oct. 13 at the Council Avenue Park in Somerton.
City parks director Louis Galaviz said the clinic, like previous ones organized by the city, allows youngsters to practice the fundamentals of fishing and to learn about possession limits and other fishing regulations enforced by the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
“We've had a good response to the clinics by the public. We estimate that we had served around 1,200 people at each one.”
The clinic, which the city will put on in cooperation with Game and Fish, is set for 8 to 11 a.m. at Council Avenue Park, 801 N. Council Ave., and will be free and open to the public. Children 9 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Galaviz said the park is stocked with catfish and other species in preparation for the clinic.
A limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan, Galaviz said, adding that attendees should bring their own gear if possible.
