Workshop to help with college financial aid
Arizona Western College is hosting its annual College Goal Sunday for students planning to attend any college in the fall.
The free workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Academic Complex Center building on AWC's main campus.
In conjunction with the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE), the workshop will help students prepare Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.
Computers will be available for students to access FAFSA online, and presentations will be in both English and Spanish. There will also be campus tours, food booths and informational material given out by AWC clubs and departments.
Previous workshops have reported some of the highest attendance numbers compared with the 30 other sites in Arizona.
“The purpose of College Goal Sunday is to assist students, especially minority and first-generation college applicants, in completing the FAFSA form, which is their first step toward accessing postsecondary education,” said AWC officials.
In 2007, ACPE reported that 56 percent of their attendees were from first-generation college homes and 52 percent of their families had an annual income of less than $40,000.
