Motorcycle fatality report completed
A report on last month's fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of a Yuma man will be sent to the Yuma County Attorney's Office for review.
However, Officer Clint Norred, spokesman for the Yuma Police Department, said based on the investigation, he doesn't believe any charges will be filed.
"We don't see any criminal intent or actions as a cause of the accident," Norred said.
The accident occurred on the morning of Oct. 28 at 16th Street and Avenue B. The motorcycle rider was identified as Rodney Duran, 55, of Yuma.
Duran, who was known for his love of motorcycles and for performing at church and with local bands, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Duran was driving his Harley-Davidson northbound on Avenue B at 6:52 a.m. when he collided with a car driven by Deanna Leinenger, 45, of Yuma.
Leinenger was southbound on Avenue B when she attempted to turn east onto 16th Street, according to YPD. Duran and Leinenger collided in the intersection.
Leinenger was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Alcohol was confirmed not to be a factor in the accident, which kept the intersection closed for more then two hours.
Duran, who went by the nickname "Bardy," worked at Byrd Refrigeration Service, which closed for the day to honor Duran and give employees time to grieve.
He played with several Yuma bands throughout the year and frequently shared his musical talents during Mass at Immaculate Conception Church.
