Trash pickup on hold due to rain forecast

Today's (Saturday's) scheduled trash pickup effort along County 19th Street has been postponed a week because of the possibility of rain in today's forecast.

The volunteer cleanup has been rescheduled for 8 a.m. Dec. 8, said Jack Simes, spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the organizer of the event.

Rain was forecast in Yuma Friday night through this morning, according to Accuweather, The Sun's weather service.

Volunteers are being sought to take part in the effort to clean up illegal dumping sites in the County 19th Street area.

To participate in the Dec. 8 cleanup, volunteers should travel south on Avenue B to County 19th, turn right, proceed 3 miles until leaving the mesa, and then turn left into the cleanup site entrance, which will be marked by a state flag.
